Rooted.to an Invitation

I am not a natural born gardener. Neither of my thumbs are green.  But I’ve always wanted to garden.  I have hand sketched plans dating back to my youth with landscape dreams and floral desires. But it was never something I put any time or attention to.

My first plants!

Until 2021.  When life was harder than I could have ever imagined.  When I couldn’t put together a to-do list to save my life.  When all I wanted to do was burrow under my down comforter and be done with EVERYTHING.

God invited me to the garden.

In those moments, I found there was always something to suit my mood.

Need to rip out a bush with my bare hands?  ✔️
Need to focus on the repetitive task of weeding?  ✔️
Need to feel inspired by planting color?  ✔️
Need to experiment with new ideas? ✔️
Need to worship at the top of my lungs?  ✔️
Need to cry out in pain?  ✔️

It was in the garden that the Holy Spirit met me.  First to say, “Child it’s alright. I see you.  You’re not alone.  We’ve got this.  Let’s reclaim lost space.”

And then to show me insights and similarities in growing a ministry.  Wisdom was found in the garden.  Discernment, principles, ideas, solutions.  One-by-one connections were made between my professional call to ministry operations and my personal call to garden.

And Rooted.To was born.

If you're like me, you didn't start your ministry call with a heart for administration.  Maybe you had some gifts in that area already but your heart was children, or youth, families, perhaps people experiencing homelessness.  Somewhere along the way you needed to create some order out of the chaos, raise some money, or recruit volunteers.  Operations became a means to an end.

But what if operations was joyful?  What if it was intentional?  And what if it was integral to your mission

That’s what being rooted.to is all about.

And the possibilities are endless
